September Cancer Awareness Events

September’s Cancer Awareness Events

There are many cancer awareness days and months celebrated throughout the year. September is the host of a few cancer awareness events with each their own ways to spread awareness of the illnesses and guidance on to detect and treat them. Here are 3 cancer awareness events in the month of September.

Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

One in nine men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime, making it the most commonly diagnosed cancer among U.S. men according to Zero.org, the leading national nonprofit with the mission to end prostate cancer. During September, men and their families can learn about the lifesaving benefits of early detection at one of ZERO’s 24 run/walks nationwide. Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

Ovarian cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related death in American women. This is largely because early ovarian cancer often has no symptoms. Screening for ovarian cancer is difficult, but pelvic imaging and blood tests are currently the best tests for diagnosing ovarian cancer. Body CT, body MRI, PET/CT, or lower GI are among those generally prescribed to assess the disease and look into courses of treatment. Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

In the US alone, almost 16,000 children are diagnosed with cancer every year. The goal of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is to increase awareness and raise funds for those affected by childhood cancer. The American Childhood Cancer Organization encourages those looking to get involved to choose one of ACCO’s two signature events or create your own fundraiser!
